Summer Camps 2017

We’re now back to our regular weekly meetings after a fantastic summer of boating and camps. We’re also celebrating Kidlington Scout Group’s 75th Anniversary this month, and marking the occasion with a day of activities and an evening party. We’ll share photos of that in the next Kidlington News, but for now, here are the highlights of the Sea Scout and Explorer Scout Unit summer camps.

Sea Scouts

This year, the Sea Scout Troop held their annual summer camp near Southampton. Despite mixed weather, everyone had a great time in a busy week packed full of activities. The pirate-themed week began with a visit to Fort Nelson and crabbing, then a trip to Portsmouth to see HMS Warrier, the Mary Rose and HMS Victory. Later in the week the Scouts visited Marwell zoo (in the rain!) and had great fun dry slope skiing. During all the fun activities out and about and back at the campsite, the Scouts completed lots of badge work too. The leaders gave out a whopping 140 badges before the end of camp!

Explorer Scouts

Our older members, the Gordo Explorer Scout Unit, spent their summer camp week in the Lake District. They packed in a whole load of activities throughout the week, trying axe throwing, rifle shooting, and high ropes, as well as rock climbing, boating and cycling. And it wouldn’t be a Scout camp in the Lake District without climbing a mountain – the group successfully scaled Scafell Pike!
